President Obama offered Hope but gave more of the same

Former NATO chief Clark dismayed by regime-change

ambitions that were outlined by a Pentagon staff officer

Only the bleeding multi-trillion dollar deficit, combined with a wrecked economy, is seemingly reining-in the military-industrial blood lust that sucks away 50 cents out of every American tax dollar.

There is a discernable difference in tenor in the voice and the body language of U.S. president Barack Obama. Gone is the strident confidence of both during the election campaign. Now we have a wide-eyed voice and posture saying, I know I'm lying, but please believe me because I want my second coming in 2012.

Sorry Barack baby but I don't believe you anymore. When you had a clear majority in both houses you allowed badgering by the right wing pocketed by the insurance companies to cause you to finally pass a watered-down disgrace of a public health bill.

You're easily following the path of George W. Bush in shrinking the cherished civil rights of Americans.

On the heels of the strangely assigned Nobel Peace Prize you ramped up the war in Afghanistan by 30,000 surge troops. Now you're promising to bring home 10,000 this year and another 20,000 in 2012. Clearly a vote getter. But that still leaves about 75,000 back at the ranch.

You're really not planning to evacuate Afghanistan. You just, for voter attention, want to wind it down a little. Ownership and control of that burial ground of empires is central to the U.S. military-industrial complex's simple-minded adolescent dream of world conquest.

Even former NATO Commander General Wesley Clark is dismayed by that fantasy. In his book Winning Modern Wars he says on page 130:

"As I went back through the Pentagon in November 2001, one of the senior military staff officers had time for a chat. Yes, we were still on track for going against Iraq, he said. But there was more. This was being discussed as part of a five-year campaign plan, he said, and there were a total of seven countries, beginning with Iraq, then Syria, Lebanon, Libya, Iran, Somalia and Sudan.

"...He said it with reproach--with disbelief, almost--at the breadth of the vision. I moved the conversation away, for this was not something I wanted to hear. And it was not something I wanted to see moving forward, either. ...I left the Pentagon that afternoon deeply concerned."

Your country, Barack, spends hundreds of millions of dollars to promote dissidence in target countries that lead to armed takeovers as you did, but failed, in Venezuela with the false arrest of President Hugo Chavez. You spend tens of millions to achieve the same in Cuba alone.

You certainly have done the same in all of the countries listed by General Clark. When the given countries crack down on uprisings you financed you falsely claim humanitarian interest that is supposed to give you the moral right of military intervention.

Your slip-sliding around legal technicalities to attack Libya is a disgrace to any graduate in constitutional law. Clearly, Obama is your name, but dishonesty is your game.

You lie about the sanity of your targets. And one of the silliest lies about Libyan leader Qaddafi is that he's giving Viagra to his troops so that they will then go out and rape women. Since when have rape-intent soldiers needed Viagra to do the job? You say you must protect civilians from Libyan attack. But Qaddafi troops never attacked civilians; they counter-attacked armed rebels.

Any lie will do. And there are always a minority who are gullible enough to believe them.

And the kept media, like well-trained attack dogs, will parrot your lies.

Sorry Barack, if you weren't already there, you've surely been absorbed by the very forces that are destroying the America we grew up to respect.

Tens of thousands of military dead, dying, and wounded. Hundreds of thousands of civilian men, women, and children, dead, dying, and wounded, and you want us to believe your propaganda machine even yet?

You'll no doubt have a second run at the presidency. But, still a victim of Hope, I hope that a gentleman and a scholar will rise out of the ranks of the Republican running of the reptiles and give credence to the position you now hold and have betrayed.

Jon Huntsman, former governor of Utah comes to mind. But when he scores Obama for rash spending, I want to believe he's talking of cutting the bloated military budget and not social security, health, education, and infrastructure. Foolish thought.

Of course, there's always Ralph Nader. He tried to warn about the Great God Obama but not enough would listen to his sage advice.

Meanwhile, take it easy, but take it.

Looking forward
