Iris Winston has been writing and editing for a wide variety of print and electronic media for more than 35 years. As well as reviewing theatre for Variety and writing features for the Ottawa Citizen and other newspapers, she is a regular contributor to a number of magazines and anthologies.
She has six books in print, including two children's books, A Visit from the Tooth Fairy, published in December 2006, and Sammy Skunk finds a friend, published in November 2007. She has won a number of awards for her writing, including first prizes in the 2006 and 2007 (plays for young people category) and 2000 and 2007 (adult category) Ottawa Little Theatre National Playwriting competitions, provincial awards for arts journalism and awards for short-story and essay writing
Her academic qualifications include an M.A. in History, two undergraduate degrees and two post-graduate diplomas. She is a former executive director of the Canadian Federation of Humane Societies and was a federal public servant for 18 years. She retired in February 2007 and is now writing full time.
