Synopsis

Philip Nagy
I recently heard a poet comment that novelists are simply inefficient writers. I thought it was just a pretty good one-liner until I tried to produce just a couple of paragraphs about myself and my writing. My career revolved around teaching university students how to do statistical analysis. About the time I retired, I decided to start labeling my writing as fiction.
I’ve finished two novels, and I’m working on a collection of short stories. My style is influenced by traditional storytelling. Most of my chapters can be read in six to eight minutes, the modal length in the oral tradition. My first novel, Up Deedle Creek (available now), is based loosely on characters around our cottage somewhere in Eastern Ontario. My second novel, A Degree of Truth (available soon), is based in a small university somewhere in Central Ontario. Of course, both books are entirely fictional. If you recognize anyone in either book, it’s entirely a coincidence.
I’ve been married for forty years. I have two children and, so far, three grandchildren. You can find out more, and get ordering information, at www.philipnagy.ca.
