OIW Authors and Baico Donate 110 Books
to Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario

On Thursday May 1, George Laidlaw, president of Ottawa Independent Writers, and Randy Ray, OIW's publicity director, will present 110 books to the children's library at CHEO.

The books for young readers to the age of 18, were donated by OIW authors, as well as Baico Books, which is an OIW member, and OIW, which has published several titles over the years.  OIW is a 170-member umbrella group for authors, editors, publicists, publishers, illustrators and freelance writers.

Authors will be reimbursed by OIW for the cost price of their books plus $1. The total retail value of the books is approximately $2,000.

The titles cover such subjects as trivia, Canadian history, the environment, historical fiction, mysteries, short stories and teaching children how to handle various challenges such as enrolling at a new school.

The presentation to CHEO's head librarian takes place at CHEO's main entrance at 11 a.m. on May 1.

“I thank all OIW members for participating in this project, which is win-win for CHEO kids and OIW authors,'' says Laidlaw. ``By working together with CHEO, our organization and its authors will make the lives of young patients a little brighter and at the same time have their books showcased before young readers."
