John Steffler, Canada’s Parliamentary Poet Laureate, has planned two events to celebrate National Poetry Month in Canada.
He has invited five prominent poets from across Canada to Ottawa Tuesday, April 15 to take part in an afternoon panel discussion and an evening poetry reading.
“The celebration is a time to promote poetry and its vital place in Canada’s culture,” said Mr. Steffler.
Invited, from west to east are: Tim Lilburn, British Columbia, Louise Bernice Halfe, Saskatchewan, Nicole Brossard, Quebec, Mary Dalton, Newfoundland, and Don McKay, Newfoundland.
Between 2:30 and 4 p.m. there will be a panel discussion on The Merits of Tradition and Innovation in the Arts or Arguments for Cultural Continuity and Cultural Change.
From 7 to 9 p.m. poets will read a sample of their works.
