Official green light for Singapore F1 night race

SINGAPORE, Malaysia - Formula 1's governing body, the International Automobile Federation (FIA), has given the green light to hold Formula 1's first night race.

A spokesman for the promoter said approval for the night race had come via the Singapore motor sports council.

Singapore GP Ltd deputy chairman Colin Syn said: "With two positive lighting tests under our belt, we are on track to delivering the first night race."

The 2008 Singapore GP is scheduled for Sept. 28 on public roads around the downtown Marina Bay area, making it F1's first street race in Asia.

The go-ahead follows FIA approval in September 2007 to build the planned 5.067km Singapore circuit. The city-state agreed a five-year deal for the race in May. — Reuters.
