Volvo has recalled 56 000 cars worldwide because of two separate problems linked to crash bags and engines.
About 18 000 current Volvo V70 and XC70 models have from faulty crash bags and 38 000 2006 diesel models sold across Europe have problems with their fuel-injector clamps.
Volvo spokeswoman Maria Bohlin said there was "a software problem with side crash bags... we've discovered that in a collision with a small object such as a pole they are not triggered as quickly as expected".
The crash-bag recall concerned mainly Britain, the US, Germany, Italy and Sweden, Bohlin said.
In other recall involving Volvo S60, V70, XC70 and XC90 units made in 2006 has faulty fuel-injector clamps that could lead to leaking diesel fuel.
"In the worst case scenario, the diesel can leak onto the warm engine and cause smoke or even a fire," Bohlin said.
If you have one of these cars, contact your nearest Volvo dealer. Recall letters have been sent to the owners of all of the vehicles potentially affected offering repairs free of charge.
