Editor’s Notes

God Bless America! It sure needs it.

It’s not easy to make light of George W’s. blood bath in Iraq but I can’t help finding wry amusement in a story filed in this issue titled Russia wants equal access to Iraq oil. It’s a brief piece, just 207 words, but it’s packed with irony. Here’s a few lines:

Russia, which objected to the U.S. invasion of Iraq in 2003, saying it would increase instability in the region and foster terrorism, is against setting a deadline for withdrawing U.S. troops from Iraq, the Foreign Ministry said Monday.”

What Russia predicted has come to pass. Now it wants the exhausted U.S. military to hang in there and try to put a lid on it. Calls to mind that poem from Poems Chiefly Narrative, Hem and Haw. “And Hem stood round/And Haw stood round/While God did all the work.”

Perhaps the Russian position is based on the ancient admonition: “You made your bed. Lie in it.”

Well Bush has long claimed that he is in direct communication with God. So doing God’s work while Hem and Haw stand round with eager eyes on the vast oil pool must be the reason for which he was put on this earth. Pity the young people, however, on all sides of the invasion/civil war who are dead, dying, and maimed in the name of Bush’s god.

It ain’t funny McGee. And along with the other worsts of it, is that Bush is too stupid and too devoid of humanity to feel compassion or shame. God bless America! It sure needs it.

This edition has a lot of interesting stuff, some of which may be considered not politically correct but I feel it can be defended without too much effort.

Read True North and avoid being caught in the dark without a flashlight.

Looking forward
