Militants chop ears

off Afghan drivers

KABUL, March 18 (Xinhua) — Suspected militants chopped off the ears of two drivers supplying fuel to a U.S. military base in Nuristan province of eastern Afghanistan, an interior ministry spokesman said Sunday.

 The militants set on fire three tankers Saturday and chopped off the ears of two drivers, the spokesman said.

 However, media reports said noses and ears of five drivers were chopped off in Nuristan.

 No groups or individuals have so far claimed responsibility. Taliban militants have frequently attacked or even killed the drivers working for foreign troops.
