SYDNEY, Australia — Drivers caught street racing in Sydney will be presented with a video of their impounded vehicles being reduced to scrap metal, New South Wales Police Minister David Campbell said on Monday.
"Video footage of these once-prized possessions being turned into splintered, twisted scrap will be the clearest message yet that we're serious about stamping out their behaviour and saving lives in the process," he said.
The plan to destroy impounded vehicles came after a weekend in which police confiscated four cars and charged the drivers with illegal street racing.
Video footage of the car-crushing would also be used in road safety campaigns.
