Editor’s Notes

Secrecy and paranoia are hallmarks of Harper’s leadership

If the federal government so tightly controlled by Harper wasn’t in a position to do a lot of harm its practice of secrecy and paranoia would be amusing. Harper runs his caucus like a 19th century one-room schoolmaster  away in the bush and scared silly of his students. Allowing hardly a peep from anyone under his control. Clearly he’s afraid they’ll say something stupid that will damage his party at the polls. But when it comes to that Harper doesn’t need any help. He does quite well himself. Please see below how he handled the Afghan torture scandal. Lies, secrecy, paranoia — a package of fearful dishonesty that is entirely in the spirit and practice of Harper’s mentor George W. Bush. Only people with a hidden agenda behave in that way. Only another election can restore responsibility and honesty on the Hill. Meanwhile, we have a full load of information and entertainment in this issue. As they say in Swahili, see you Monday

Looking forward,
