Writers and those who would like to become writers
are welcome to join the Ottawa Independent Writers

By Bill Horne
OIW Membership Director and Past President

The Ottawa Independent Writers was given birth in 1984 by writers as an organization to serve writers. It now has 190 members and continues to grow.

We provide a place where writers of all genres and abilities can share experiences and learn aspects of their craft.

While our primary focus is on the craft of writing, we also pay serious attention to the business of writing, and to networking, and advocacy of writers.

Our members cover virtually every aspect of writing and some are involved in allied fields such as publishing, television, and graphic arts, for just three examples.

We have regular meetings nine times a year at the Library and Archives Canada for informative, stimulating, evening programs. OIW also has a wide range of workshops, retreats, contests, social events to name but a few.

For more and complete information see our website at www.oiw.ca

The welcome mat is always out. There are no admission requirements other than payment of a very modest membership fee with discounts for seniors, families, and students.

(Bill Horne has been a member of OIW for more than 10 years, serving as Secretary, Treasurer, Communications Manager, Vice-President, Social Convener, President, and now, Membership Director.)
