Sex vs clothes: women
prefer clothes over sex

For most women, the choice between sex and a new wardrobe is simple — they go for the clothes. Women on average say they would be willing to give up sex for 15 months for a closet full of new apparel, with 2 percent ready to abstain from sex for three years in exchange for new duds, according to a new survey of about 1,000 women in 10 U.S. cities. Sixty-one percent of women polled said it would be worse to lose their favorite article of clothing than give up sex for a month. — 261 words.

Pipeline firm settles to pay fine
rather than face oil-for-food rap

Warren Hoge of The International Herald Tribue says El Paso, the largest American natural gas pipeline operator, agreed Wednesday to pay the U.S. government $7.73 million to settle allegations that it was involved in illegal payments under the United Nations-run oil-for-food program in Iraq. The company, based in Houston, will forfeit $5.48 million under a settlement with U.S. prosecutors in New York. — 381 words.

‘Environmental and political concerns
will not delay Russian-German pipeline’

The Associated Press reports that a joint Russian-German natural gas pipeline to be built in the Baltic Sea will not be delayed by environmental and political concerns, former Chancellor Gerhard Schröder of Germany said Wednesday in his new role as adviser to the owner of the pipeline, Nord Stream. The 1,200-kilometer, or 750-mile, pipeline will go through Russian, Finnish, Swedish, Danish and German territory near parts of the seabed where chemical weapons and mines were dumped during and after World War II. — 553 words.

Russia’s LUKoil taps new 100 million barrel
oil reserve in Columbia, South America

LUKoil Overseas, a subsidiary of Russia's largest oil company LUKoil, says it has discovered oil reserves of more than 100 million barrels in Colombia. The oil was found through the Condor project, in the foothills of Eastern Cordillera, in the western part of the Llanos oil basin. This is the first discovery by Russian producers in the western hemisphere, the company's news release said. — 142 words.

Russia Urges Iran to Show 'Good Will' in search
for nuclear solution based on international law

Henry Meyer, Associated Press Writer, Russia's foreign minister on Thursday urged Iran to show good will in resolving the dispute over its nuclear program, as a senior Iranian envoy held talks in Moscow. Sergey Lavrov told Ali Akbar Velayati, an envoy of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, that Moscow hoped for a positive response in Tehran to its efforts to achieve a solution. — 484 words.
