Gloria Steinem says in The New York Times that “Even before Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton threw their exploratory committees into the ring, every reporter seemed to be asking which candidate are Americans more ready for, a white woman or a black man? With all due respect to the journalistic dilemma of reporting two "firsts" at the same time — two viable presidential candidates who aren't the usual white faces over collars and ties — I think this is a dumb and destructive question.” — 807 words.

Largest sex bias case in U.S. history

A U.S. federal appeals court gave the green light for the largest sex discrimination case in U.S. history to proceed against giant retailer Wal-Mart Stores. Our motto From Sea to Sea was born in Saskatchewan

The motto “A Mari usque ad Mare” (From Sea to Sea) was first officially used in 1906 engraved on the head of a mace in the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan.  The phrase was adopted by the federal government in 1921, although another motto, “In memoriam in spem (“In memory, in hope”) had also been suggested.
