For a thousand years, right on the heels of the invention of moveable type by China’s Bi Sheng circa 1040, and especially since about 1450 when Johannes Gutenberg introduced moveable type in Europe, printing establishments have always been plagued by a species called printer’s devil — an apprentice learning the printer’s trade. When anything went wrong, blame on the printer’s devil could be heard far and wide. It was this same printer’s devil who struck yesterday. He mailed Wednesday’s True North masquerading as Thursday’s issue. Alert readers by email and telephone raised the alarm and Thursday’s issue was mailed out before noon on Thursday. It’s good to know that we have alert readers.
Perhaps the printer’s devil got excited and confused by the fact that Wednesday’s issue had a series of stories short in length and wanted this to repeat. Anyway, we haven’t abandoned the idea of brief presentation. We’re still working on developing a balance between the latter and essays on subjects that need background. So please bear with us as we perfect the process.
In
this issue we offer a piece by Maureen Dowd of The New York Times on Hilary Rodham
Clinton. Maureen Dowd is one of sharpest columnists in the world. We also have
an expert’s analysis of Hugo Chavez considering whether or not the latter is an
environmental hypocrite
or an ecological Savior.
There’s also a report that
Remember to take it easy, but take it. Looking forward.
